Love Guru: Looks We Love Part II

V-Day might have passed, but ah, I can still feel love wafting through the air. My Reebonz Makeup Guru has got the best beauty tips for that first date that’ll have your phones ringing for seconds and thirds!

I sat down and had a little chat with Jazlinda Jalil, our Reebonz Makeup Guru, who gave me some neat makeup tips and tricks for those of us having our first date jitters:

Q: How much makeup should I wear on a first date?

“For a first date, you would want to look decent enough, so try not to go overboard with makeup. Skip the smokey looks and heavy lashes, and choose a neutral colour palette instead .You don’t want to scare him with glittery eyes on your first date!”

Q: How different should my makeup looks be for a date in the day and in the night?

“If you’re looking for a little drama, go for a good coat of black mascara. If you prefer to have it natural as possible, a chocolate brown will give a much softer look, which is more appropriate for a daytime date.

For a night out with him, you can be a little more adventurous with your lips. A deep red shade of lipstick is good enough to draw attention to the mouth.

Most importantly, don’t disappear behind your makeup – Instead, use it to help you conceal your little flaws, while highlighting your best features.”

Q: Is it a faux pas to leave lipstick stains on your glass?

“It may be a mistake to leave behind your lipstick stains on your glass. It also means your lipstick may come off right after dinner and you will have to touch them up again.

Give your lipstick a better layer to sit on by colouring in your lips with a lipliner in a similar shade. The finish of your lipstick also plays a part: Matte finishes have no shine or shimmer, and they typically have better staying power than other types of lipsticks.

To further improve the texture of your lips, avoid dryness and flakiness by exfoliating them lightly before applying your lipstick.”

Of course, every beauty look has its muse, so I’ve picked only the top reps for three gorgeous makeup looks, and then got the ladies and gentlemen at Reebonz to vote for their favourites!

Simple and Au Naturel
Even if you don’t have an enviably flawless complexion like actress Chloë Moretz has, you can still pull off the fresh-faced dewy look with these steps.

Start off with 1. Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer for this fresh neutral look. Tinted moisturizers will give you a sheer coverage and it is also great for daytime wear.

Conceal your imperfections with your prefered concealers and set them with 2. Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder using 3. A Kabuki brush. Using loose powders will not make your skin look cakey.

Try avoid using two-way or a compact powder for this look. It may come off cakey on the skin. Tip: There is a reason why compact powders are called “”compact”” powders. They are compact-sized and is meant to fit into our purses for the touch-ups we need when we are out for the day/night!

Apply 6. Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse with an angled brush for your eyebrows. This product is suitable for a less dramatic eyebrow.

Using 8. Ed Pinaud neutral palette, apply the lighter brown on your eyelid and a small amount on your lower lashes.

Apply mascara, and blusher from 4. M.A.C in Dainty.

End the look with a pale pink matte lipstick from 9. Illamasqua in Fable, or, you could opt for 7. Elizabeth Arden lipstick in Wildberry Cream for a sheer rosy pout.

Bold Lips
The Kardashian sisters, like Khloé (pictured), are queens of the bold lip. Dabble in tangerines, fuschia and reds on your kisser for a flaming-hot statement.

For a bold lip look, you can choose to put on light eye makeup paired up with a bold lip, or you could go all out for the look.

If you are going to an event will need to take loads of photos, 3. Makeup Forever High Definition Foundation is the perfect choice for you. This foundation is lightweight yet buildable coverage. Don’t forget to set your makeup with Makeup Forever High Definition Powder. These two will leave your skin pore-less and camera-ready.

If you have more time to play around with makeup, you can try amp up your look with a two-toned eye makeup. Try applying 13. M.A.C Satin Eyeshadow in Shroom on 1/4 on your lids starting from the inner conners of your eye. Followed by 2. M.A.C Velvet Eyeshadow in Mulch, apply them 3/4 of your lids. This will give like an ombré effect look.

Eyelashes will enhance your eyes and will definitely make them appear bigger. If you prefer more natural looking eyelashes, you can try wearing 10. Ardell Lashes in 120 Demi Black. If you are brave enough to go all drama, try 14. Ardell Lashes in 203 Black instead.

For rosy cheeks throughout the day, dab 12. Benefit’s Benetint on your cheeks.

Since bold lips are the main highlight of this look, apply 4. M.A.C matte lipstick in Ruby Woo and don’t forget to line your lips with 6. M.A.C lip liner in Cherry for a full pout.

I love 7. Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Besso as it has great staying power. It stays right there on your lips and you won’t have to panic if you forget to bring it for touchups!

1. Nars Sheer Glow foundation will be perfect for this look! Apply this foundation with 7. Sigma’s F50 duo fibre brush and you’ll get a matte yet smooth finish. Next, set your foundation with 11. M.A.C mineralized skin finish with a powder brush.

Apply 2. M.A.C Pro Longwear waterproof brow set on your eyebrows.

The main highlight of this look is the eye. To get a rugged smokey eye look, dab 4. M.A.C eyeshadow in Black Tie on your eyelids. Be sure to use a flat eyeshadow brush and start with a very small amount to avoid going overboard.

Blending is an important part, especially for a smokey eye look! Blend the eyeshadows with 9. Sigma’s E40 tapered blending brus to soften the hard lines from the eyeshadow.

Line your lids with small strokes with 10. M.A.C Blacktrack Fluidline using 9. Sigma E30 pencil brush. Smudge the liner with the same brush gently. This will instantly give the smokey look you aimed for.

Draw your lower inner eye rim with 5. Dior Black Waterproof eyeliner to add more character to your look. Tip: Waterproof means it’s also smudge-free. Coat your lashes with 6. Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Curling mascara. If you love having thick coats of mascara, you can try M.A.C Haute and Naughty Too Black Lash mascara instead.

Finish the look with 2.Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Medium Matte bronzer.
